A parish of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is a vibrant community that serves over 2400 parishioners each week from Sherwood Park and surrounding areas.

With their baptismal font located at the rear of the Sanctuary, the church had a challenge in ensuring all congregation members were able to clearly see and participate in the baptism celebration that was taking place behind them. Further, the congregation members were required to turn backwards in their seat in order to take part in the baptism celebrations – a distracting and uncomfortable situation. This was not conducive to the goal of the church, and therefore the church contacted MERGE SYSTEMS to perform a complete needs analysis to determine what technology could be implemented to address their concerns.

With high image quality, simplicity of operation and tight integration with the existing architectural design key design criteria, the end result is a dual screen projection system equipped with motorized widescreen projection screen surfaces, large format high output projectors, two remotely controlled Pan-Tilt-Zoom 1080i HD Sony cameras, multi input switching and monitoring systems, and a touch screen control system interface to provide the system users with a simple method of controlling the system components. The addition to of lighting fixtures integrated with their existing lighting control system illuminate the baptismal font ensuring the image was optimal for capture and display.

The congregation can now fully participate in all baptism celebrations in comfort and with less distraction, and as an added benefit the church also now has the ability to project song lyrics, homily and hymn text, and other graphical content for the entire congregation to view.
